This all came about earlier when I was perusing NP. I saw a "gifted" board and was like... "hmmm, why not". I soon noticed that it had the generic "evil government agents infiltrating boarding school" type thing going on... which I really dislike.
But then I thought I could use my one character pretending to be a sociology teacher and using that to manipulate the students into finding out how they would handle normal society--to see if they would pose a threat.
And then the board creator said her character is a "19 year old agent". Yes. Covert, top of the line, highly political and morally ambiguous agenda, matter of national security... handled by a person who is barely an adult.
So I was all... Lemme come up with a BETTER idea, that is slightly more realistic for a genre that is 99.7% unrealistic.
And this is what I'm working on so far:

And this is what I'm working on so far:
The existence of people with supernatural (or otherwise) abilities is technically known by the government and others, but it is not widespread public knowledge. Since they are all pretty much people, citizens, taxpayers, etc there hasn'y been any action openly or widely taken against them. Of course, this is something tentative--if there were to be a major catastrophe regarding supernaturals, of course the government would be forced to take action.
Instead, there is a group of people whose purpose is to keep the order between those who are normal and those who are not so much--even if it means killing, blackmailing, or otherwise threatening them.
Another element to the idea is where the abilities came from. Since people with abilities are, by far, more widespread than they have ever been. Some can be explained with science, mutations, and other genetic study. Yet others completely baffle and break all rules--which could bring to light mythical things like fey or real magic.
That's pretty much all I have so far... Thoughts?
