Hi guys! So, my name is Jenni and I'm going to be giving you some of my tips and tricks on how to play a guy. Now, not everyone plays a guy the same way; granted, the best advice to take from someone playing a male character, is a male playing a male character.
But! Since I am not a boy, you'll have to take what I have, alright?
Basics to Playing a Male:
✖ Boys are slightly more logical than girls.
Where females tend to get emotional and let their hearts rule, nine out of ten guys are more likely to think with their head than with their heart.
✖ Most guys aren't ashamed of who they are.
Like I mentioned before, nine out of ten guys aren't going to care if they burp, fart or crack their knuckles around their pals. So, try to be realistic. Not every guy is going to hold in a burp or a fart just 'cos.
✖ Guys are human too.
Granted they aren't going to stay crying when someone breaks up with them depending on their personality, but they do have their weak spots and some guys do in fact have a good cry over the dog dying in Marley and Me.
✖ Gay guys aren't female.
Not all gay men/boys are going to be flamboyant and colorful, that's one of the things to remember. Even the most feminie homosexual still has a few manly traits, so bear that in mind whenever you're writing a gay guy.
✖ It's all about the connection.
Guys do a lot of things differently than girls, and flirting/making that initial connection with another character is one of them. Guys are going to flirt more with a pretty girl than a homely one, guys are also going to brag and joke around with a new guy friend or give them heck about who knows what.
✖ Guys like to cuss, and fight.
This isn't always true, but most guys are hotheads and tend to let their anger get the better of him, so naturally they're going to cuss and fight a little more than a girl would. Again, this isn't always true, but it is there.
✖ Romantics-at-heart.
Not a guys will admit to it, but a lot of them will probably go out of their way to make their girl (or guy) of the moment happy with him. Personally, it takes more than just a few dates to get this out of a guy, but when there's a special someone that the guys knows isn't just a butterfly about to leave, they'll do what they can to make them happy.
and I think that's it! If there's something I'm missing or there's something you'd like to add, feel free to post in this thread :]
